Butler Residence

100 Monarch Crest Trail Durango, Colorado.

3600sf new single family home at Edgemont Highlands.

The project was built by Edgewood Construction and completed summer 2009.

A linear building site that unfolds to forested open space provided the opportunity for all of the frequently used rooms of this Edgemont Highlands home to enjoy wonderful east views and tremendous daylight. Traditional architecture with mountain style exterior materials of wood and stone generates harmony with the surrounding ponderosa pines. The fieldstone cladding travels from the piers of the front porch, around the octagonal office to the two-story fireplace centered on the main living area. The stone also appears inside on an arch separating the entry and dining area along with surfacing up the tapering chimney of the fireplace.

Rustic hickory plank floors transverse both levels and is a nice compliment to the dark cherry cabinets. A uniquely shaped, two tiered kitchen island with a hickory top fosters conversation and makes for festive entertaining. Clear sealed aspen ceilings with Douglas fir beams highlight the vaulted ceilings throughout. This certified Built Green home boasts an up to 95% efficient in-floor radiant heating system. A conditioned crawlspace and meticulous attention to insulation and air gap sealing make this home comfortable and energy efficient during all times of year.
