100 Clear Creek Loop

Durango, Colorado.

3800sf new single family home at Edgemont Highlands.

The project was built by Edgewood Construction and completed fall 2009

The small restrictive building area on this Edgemont Highlands parcel required the house design to be three stories and almost cubic in proportion. The sloping site allowed the garage, master suite and all of the public rooms to be located on the middle level, rarely necessitating the occupants to travel two flights of stairs to access a room. The upper level rooms fit inside steep pitched attic roof trusses, decreasing the overall massing of the structure and making the house appear as only a modest two story building from the street.

Two fireplaces sharing a common chimney located in the center of the house add ambiance and augment the already efficient in-floor radiant heating system. Wide plank bamboo flooring with many vaulted aspen ceiling rooms makes this warm mountain home comfortable. Alder doors and cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and Kolbe wood windows are some of the exceptional materials used throughout the house. Basil green painted gables and natural sealed post and beam accents pleasantly contrast with the dark charcoal stained cedar channel rustic siding. Rusted corrugated metal siding wraps the base of the house not only adding an interesting texture and color, but additionally providing a durable cladding material exactly where it is needed the most.
